Medical Doctor

Dr. Ruguru is a medical doctor, having previously practiced at The Karen Hospital in Nairobi Kenya. She is currently undertaking her Master’s in Global Health at Duke University. Here she works as a Research assistant and also in the departmental communications office.

She also runs a parenting and child health blog called Exciting Parenting, www.excitingparenting.com for the last 6 years. On her platform, she discusses matters of child health and parenting, targeting young parents. This is to make their parenting journey easier, with information on how to take care of their children from a medical perspective. She prides herself to being an expert as she has done vast research in the field. She has also learnt a lot concerning parenting as she is the first born among six children, a role that she says has enabled her to “learn on the job”. Through the impact of her work, on June 3rd 2022, she was named a Forbes Achiever, Forbes Africa 30 Under 30, as one of the two females in health in the list. More to that, she prides herself as having received the Top 35 Under 35 Award in August 2020 during the International Youth Day. This Award was accorded for her impact in the community, by the United Nations, Ministry of ICT and Youth Affairs and Youth Agenda. 

She is also heavily interested in policy making in health, as evidenced by her great investment in research. She has worked for the Annals of African Surgery, the publishing body of The Surgical Society of Kenya as an editorial intern.. Her aspirations are to have a medical system that champions equality and responsiveness when it comes to health delivery in the Global South and the world at large.
